The diamond, essentials revealed…

A symbol of eternity and purity, the diamond has always fascinated… yet behind its brilliance lies a world of precision and craftsmanship.
How can you recognize a beautiful diamond? What determines its value? And why choose a natural diamond?

Tollet Joailliers guides you through the essentials, combining gemological expertise with a passion for fine jewellery.

The 4Cs:
the foundations of a diamond’s beauty.

To assess the quality of a diamond, four universal criteria come into play: the 4Cs.
Together, they determine its brilliance, rarity, and value.

Color

Color refers to the natural tint found in white diamonds, ranging from completely colorless (D) to light yellow tones (Z). It directly influences both the diamond’s rarity and value.

The most sought after diamonds are colorless or near-colorless, allowing their brilliance and light to shine at their fullest.

Clarity

Clarity measures the purity of a diamond, evaluating the presence or absence of inclusions and surface imperfections that may affect the refraction of light.

The purer a diamond is, the clearer and rarer it becomes.

Cut

This is what reveals the light. A perfectly executed cut allows the diamond to capture and reflect every ray, creating its incomparable brilliance.

Beyond its shape, it is the precision of the proportions that makes all the difference.

Carat

Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. Yet size alone is not everything: a smaller diamond, if better cut or purer, may appear far more brilliant and hold greater value.

Diamond shapes:
a matter of style.

Beyond its quality, the shape of a diamond expresses a personality. Classic, bold, or timeless, each cut offers a unique aesthetic and interacts differently with light.

Round

The most iconic shape. Renowned for its exceptional brilliance, it maximizes the reflection of light and captivates with its perfect balance.

Pear

Halfway between the round and marquise cuts, its elongated silhouette brings elegance and originality while visually lengthening the finger.

Emerald

With its clean lines and step-cut facets, it emphasizes clarity over brilliance. A refined, sophisticated, and undeniably timeless look.

Oval

Soft and luminous, this shape combines brilliance with elegance. It creates the impression of a larger diamond while maintaining remarkable sparkle.

Marquise

Recognizable by its pointed ends, it offers an elongated and dramatic silhouette, ideal for those seeking character and distinction.

Cushion

With its rounded corners and vintage charm, it diffuses a softer, more romantic light, highly appreciated for its warm elegance.

The setting

Beyond the shape itself, the setting is the art of securing the diamond while enhancing its brilliance. Whether discreet or more structured, it influences both the aesthetic of the jewel and the way the stone captures light.
Here are the four types of settings we favour in the creation of our Tollet Joailliers collection:

Prong setting

The most classic and airy style. Fine prongs hold the diamond while allowing maximum light to pass through, creating optimal brilliance.

Bezel setting

The diamond is entirely surrounded by a metal rim. This setting offers a clean, modern line while ensuring excellent protection.

Channel setting

Diamonds are aligned between two metal rails with no visible separation. The result is fluid, contemporary, and highlights the continuity of the stones.

Bar setting

Similar to the channel setting, it is distinguished by fine vertical bars separating each diamond. It structures the jewel while preserving lightness and brilliance.

Yellow diamonds:
a singular radiance.

Among the natural variations of diamonds, the yellow diamond stands out for its solar brilliance and distinctive personality. Its colour, created by the presence of nitrogen during its formation, gives it a unique warmth, ranging from delicate shades to deeper, more intense tones.

Both luminous and bold, it brings character while preserving the timeless elegance of the diamond. Carefully selected by Tollet Joailliers, yellow diamonds illuminate certain creations with a subtle and precious signature.

Natural or lab-grown diamonds:
understanding the difference.

Today, two types of diamonds coexist : natural diamonds and laboratory created diamonds. Visually, they may appear identical, yet their origins tell fundamentally different stories.

Natural diamonds
Formed deep within the Earth several billion years ago, natural diamonds are the result of a rare and fascinating phenomenon.
Each stone is unique, shaped by time and the forces of nature. It embodies authenticity, rarity, and lasting value.

Lab-grown diamonds
Created in laboratories within just a few weeks, and originally intended for industrial use, lab-grown diamonds artificially reproduce the natural conditions of diamond formation.
While they share similar visual and chemical characteristics, they do not possess the same rarity or symbolic dimension.

Although lab-grown diamonds are more accessible in terms of purchase price, they do not offer the rarity or heritage value of a natural diamond. Their long term value is extremely limited, particularly on the resale market.

The choice
of Tollet Joailliers.

Faithful to its standards and vision of fine jewellery, Tollet Joailliers exclusively selects high quality natural diamonds with ethical sourcing and traceability.
A choice guided by the pursuit of authenticity, lasting value, and genuine emotion.

A diamond, far more than a jewel.

Choosing a diamond set jewel is not simply choosing a precious stone. It is about marking a moment in life: a promise, a celebration, a memory that becomes part of time itself.
Because it endures through the years without ever losing its brilliance, a high quality natural diamond becomes the discreet witness to life’s most meaningful moments. It accompanies a personal story, passed down from generation to generation.
A diamond becomes a symbol: the symbol of a bond, of a precious memory.

Through each creation, Tollet Joailliers upholds this commitment: to select, enhance, and pass on diamonds filled with meaning.
Jewels designed for today, destined to accompany the stories of tomorrow.
